Combining Your Email List with Facebook Messenger Bot, Do you use Facebook Messenger bot to talk to customers? Want to know how to list your e-mail using bots?
In this article, you will learn how to automate retrieving email addresses (and other user information) to your preferred email marketing service.
1. Prepare a List and Message Welcome to Your Email Marketing Service
With a few steps and integration, you can start using your Messenger bot to list your emails. This article shows you how to set up the process using the ManyChat Pro version (starting at $ 10 per month) and email marketing services of your choice.
To get started, go to your email marketing service. Next, you need to create a list of customers that you will add from your Messenger bot and prepare any automatic messages that you want to send when users are added to your list.
In this example, we will use MailChimp, which offers a free version. If you use a different email marketing service, adjust these general steps to create an automatic list and message in your provider, then go to Step 3
Create a List for Customers
First, you will create a list of customers that you will add from your Messenger bot. In MailChimp, click the List tab at the top of the main page and then click Create List on the right side of the screen.
Follow the instructions to make your list and click Save when you are finished.
Set a Welcome Message
After creating a list, you will prepare an automatic welcome message. This message can range from simple confirmations added to email lists that provide a main magnet or mini-course.
On the Mailchimp home screen, click the Create Campaign button.
In the pop-up window, select Email.
On the next screen, click the Automated tab and select Welcome New Subscribers from the options list.
Next, you will choose the type of automatic welcome email you want to send. There are no right or wrong answers here. The choice depends on what your customers expect. Here’s your choice:
- A Welcome Message is a message that welcomes your customers to your list and may provide one main magnet.
- The Orientation Series is when there is a lot you want to say and you don’t want to overwhelm your new customers with many statements at once.
- The Education Series is great for giving eCourses, mini-courses, or tips and tricks through a series of emails.
Determine which style is best for you and then select the list you just created from the drop-down menu.
From here, you want to design your e-mail or e-mail series depending on the automatic e-mail you choose.
After completing your welcome message, the next step depends on which marketing email provider you are using. If you use the default Mailchimp integration, proceed to Step 2. If you use a different email marketing service, skip to Step 3 to tie it together with a smart tool called Zapier.
2. Connect MailChimp to your Bot Maker Facebook Messenger

In the Edit User Input section, select Email for Type Replies, which will help Facebook regain the user’s email address in chat. All users have to do is click on their address in the chatbox to confirm or type an alternative email if they want.
To retrieve this data correctly, make a special response. Under Save Response to Custom Field, select the custom field that you created earlier to store your customer’s email address.
To make a connection from ManyChat to Mailchimp after someone confirms his email address, you need to create an Action. Under Action on Successful Input, click Action.
The action you choose depends on which email service provider you are using. For MailChimp, select Mailchimp Actions from the list.

3. Connect Email Marketing Services to your Messenger Bot Maker With Zapier
If you don’t have access to the default Mailchimp integration or want to use a different service email provider, you can use Zapier to solve the same thing.
Zapier is a kind of intermediary for many applications, and there is a free version. You will use it a lot with ManyChat to integrate with a number of different CRM, email marketing tools, Google Docs, and the like. This is a great tool to make your Messenger bot smarter without having to know any coding languages. Chances are, Zapier has a service email provider of your choice if you don’t use MailChimp.
Prepare Your Messenger Bot to Request and Retrieve User Email Addresses
First, you must create a chatbot flow in ManyChat. Navigate to the Flow tab on the left and click New Flow on the top right.
Add a name to your plot so you can manage and find it in the future.
Now make your first message or any number of messages in your path to help qualify your prospects. When you are ready to request a user’s e-mail address, add user input, which is the ManyChat Pro feature.
In the Edit User Input section, select Email for Reply Type, which will help Facebook regain the user’s email address in chat. All the user has to do is click on their address in the chatbox to confirm or type an alternative email if they want.
To retrieve this data correctly, you need to make a special response. Under Save Response to Custom Field, enter a name for the new custom field so you can easily access it in the future. I labeled my Email Address.
To make a connection between ManyChat and Zapier, and finally, your email marketing service, click Action. From the drop-down menu, select Trigger Zap.
In the text box, enter a name for your zap. Then finish making your message.
Connect your bot to your email marketing service through Zapier
After you make the most important element of your chat flow, the next step is to enter your Zapier account. On the main page, click the Make a Zap! Button.
On the next page, select the trigger application. A trigger application is where the action originates. In other words, this is point A of your data that you want to return to point B. In this case, the trigger application is ManyChat. If you haven’t used ManyChat as your previous trigger application, you should look for it in the search section.
Now you will choose the zap trigger. Click Less Common Options at the bottom of the list and select New “Trigger a Zap” Event. Then click the Save + Continue button.
You are now asked to connect or choose your ManyChat account. This allows Zapier to communicate with ManyChat and vice versa. This is where pleasure begins! For the event, select the Trigger Zap action that you just created in your ManyChat flow.
After this part of your zap has been set, you can test it. Don’t worry if the test returns unsuccessfully. That’s usually only there is no data there to be tested. Move to the next step and add action steps.
The action part of Zapier’s integration is your service email provider. In search, select or search for the service email provider. For this example, we use Constant Contact.
On the next page, select Create Contact. If you use a different service email provider, your choice may be slightly different here.
Now you need to connect the dots and select the data in ManyChat and MailChimp from the column inside Zapier. This is how you create a path for data in ManyChat that will be placed in your marketing service email.
From the Register drop-down menu, select the list that you created in your email marketing provider (see Step # 1). For Email, select the custom fild that you created in ManyChat to store user email responses.
Other items in the list are optional but the first two (Register and Email) are needed to make the connection function properly.
After you click Continue, you will be asked to run an optional test. This test will produce an error, just because nobody really passed this path before. So if you really want to test this, you must personally go through, as a user, into your chat stream. Then your test will show the success. If you don’t want to run the step, click Finish.
Only one step left. Be sure to activate your zap by changing the tab to active!
With that, your ManyChat stream is connected to your email marketing service through Zapier.
Now you can do it and test it yourself to see if the trigger is correct. This is also the right time to make one of the many growth tools that ManyChat provides: start inviting new people to subscribe to your chatbot or send broadcasts to current customers who invite them to explore your new path.
With more than 1 billion active users on Facebook Messenger, this is one of the best places to connect with your target audience. But you must be careful when building your marketing on “rented” land. In other words, you must have your own data. That way if something happens on Facebook or Facebook Messenger, you can take your list elsewhere instead of starting from scratch.
This is just one reason to capture user information such as email addresses is a good idea. Although email has a much lower open and click-through rate than Facebook Messenger, it can still do many things better. From sending more long messages to mini-courses and automation, an email is still a great tool in the box of your marketing tool. Combining the power of bots with the results of email marketing that proves to be reasonable with good marketing.
