Maybe you’re trying to get a new fan or subscriber, or maybe you just want to know how popular your content is. Whatever the reason, there are some important steps you need to take to track traffic for traffic on your website – some of which are more technical than others. Read on to learn how to check visitor traffic on your website.
1. Check the number of blog comment submissions. One easy and free way to find out the approximate number of site visitors is to check the number of people leaving comments. Statistically, only one out of every 200 readers leave comments, which can help you get a general idea of your website traffic.

- Go to the blog comments section.
- This may be a bit boring, but all you have to do is count the number of comments left by visitors manually.
- Check the total number of comments. Say you’re about to open a site like WordPress. Right after you make a comment on the blog, the browser ( browser ) will direct you to the location where you left a comment. Look into the site URL in the address bar in your browser. The first half of the address string is your website, while the second half of the URL will say something like day-one-blog # comment followed by a number. This is the number of people who have commented on your site until the day you checked it.
- Keep in mind that this amount includes spam comments.
- To be more careful, suppose that 75-90% of comments are spam.
- Go to the YouTube or Vimeo section of your site. If you plant (install) YouTube or Vimeo on your website, all you have to do is open a video and click on the video to play it. Both YouTube and Vimeo will show how many people are watching your video if the video is shared publicly. If not, you will not be able to see the number of people who visit the site.
- Note that the number of video views recorded does not always match the actual number of impressions. The amount also includes people who clicked on your video for a while and then immediately left it.
Monitor with Alexa and Google
1. Type Alexa.com. This site is one of the easiest sites to use as a website monitor. Once you have opened this site, find the search bar at the bottom of the page. There will be an Enter A Site article right next to the search bar.
2. Type the URL of your site into the search bar. Now, click the Go button to the right of the search bar. You will be directed to a screen that contains a lot of useful information about your site. Free categories include, but are not limited to:

- US Rank
- Daily Page Views Per Visitor
- Daily Time On Site
3. Go to Google. Com. The Google Display Planner is another very accurate way to monitor your website traffic. This tool for estimating website traffic created by Google will give you important metrics, such as an average number of visitors, average time spent on site, the total number of pages viewed, and more. Note that this is not free, as soon as a visitor clicks on your website, or contacts you about the website. Get started by visiting Google.com.
- Go to the top right of the screen. Click on the box with a small box inside. Scroll down to More, then click Even More From Google. You will be redirected to all Google products. Go to the Business section, and select AdWords.
- If you have listed yourself and your site on Google, look at the top right of the screen and click Sign In.
4. Google’s sign in screen will appear. You may have seen it many times when you signed in to your email account, for example. Type in your Google information, and click Sign In.
- If you recently signed up for Google for your website (not personal email accounts and the like), click Start Now on the left of the screen.
